Stenton Family Manor in Philadelphia PA. was founded over 40 years ago as a child welfare center where homeless families could find emergency shelter. It now has over 200 people living there.

Paulette lives in Stenton Manor with her two children and boyfriend. They are first put into the population room which they share with several other families until a single room is available.

The family sets out in the early morning for their different destinations. The commuting involves over two hours of walking, buses and subways.

Paulette and her son wait in the subway station to travel across the city to where she is going to a job training class and her son will reluctantly begin a head start program.

Her daughter does not want to go to a new school again.

Charlie heads out on a bus to look for work. He has to find a job by the end of the week or he will no longer be allowed to live at the shelter.

Paulette must walk her daughter into class since she is almost one hour late. The closest elementary school to the shelter is full so her daughter must walk 35 minutes to another one.
